Well, I am hustling to get all these blog posts in before the finale. So without further ado...
The Top 6...
Group Routine
 |
Choreography: Sean Cheesman
Song: Hlohonolofatsa by Sowteo |
An Afro Jazz routine from Sean Cheesman. It has a noted Lion King feel to it. I like it OK, but not sure about the all-white outfits. Felt like something was missing, like the routine wasn't all the way done.
Cat Deeley Outfit Review
It's a pretty champagne-colored gown. Looks good with the casual wavy hair, and I like her accessories. Pretty standard fare for Cat.
Guest Judge
Jessi\e Tyler Ferguson is back!!! All is right with the world. There's not much else to say, and we don't have anyone in danger (because EVERYONE is in danger), so let's get straight to the dancing.
Paul and All-Star Kathryn - Jazz
 |
Choreography: Tyce Diorio
Song: Tied Up by Yello |
I really like this one. Very hot. This is the point in the season where everyone is dancing well, and they have run out of new judging things to say. So not much except Jesse will be wearing leather pants. So great to have him back.
Amy Solo
 |
| Song: Anna's Theme from The Red Violin Soundtrack |
We see a message from Amy's parents. There's a lot of crying. Amy's dance is amazing. One of those solos where I just want it to keep going.
Hayley and All-Star Joshua - Hip Hop
 |
Choreography: NappyTabs
Song: Work Hard Play Hard by Wiz Khalifa |
Wow! That routine just looked exhausting. Hayley does a great job. Not sure about the braids, as it's a little too Million Dollar Baby looking for me, and that was a seriously depressing movie.
Fik-Shun Solo
 |
| Song: Look at Me Now by Chris Brown |
He has been one of the most entertaining soloists that they have had on this show, and this routine is no exception. So much fun.
Aaron and All-Star Melanie - Broadway
 |
Choreography: Spencer Liff
Song: Faith by George Michael |
This was such a cute routine with all the acting, and I really loved the parts where they had to dance in synchronization. But he did drop her. That's too bad. Although they covered it so well I had to rewind to see if it hadn't been on purpose, because it would also fit in with the the theme of the dance. Nigel complains about Aaron's shoulders, and acts as this has been an issue all season. Even though we've never heard anything about it before. And then there's stuff about his shoulder being injured. Luckily, Mary Murphy is there to bring it back to talk about the actual dancing in the routine. Thank you, Mary Murphy.
Jasmine Solo
 |
| Song: Amazing Grace by Destiny's Child |
Jasmine dances with such musicality and grace. A beautiful number.
Paul Solo
 |
| Song: Mamba Negra by Huecco |
Paul manages to always be so entertaining, even though he's pretty constrained by ballroom in the solo.
Fik-Shun and Witney - Foxtrot
 |
| Song: Sexy Silk by Jessie J |
This doesn't seem too much like a foxtrot, but it's pretty good. Not going to be one of my favs, but they did a good job. And Witney is so Marilyn Monroe-looking.
Hayley Solo
 |
| Song: Be Mine (Acoustic) by Robyn |
It's nice, but pretty forgettable. Not sure that she's going to make it into the finale, no matter what she does here.
Jasmine and All-Star Neil - Contemporary
 |
Choreography: Tyce Diorio
Song: Unfaithful from Unfaithful Soundtrack |
Ugh! Tyce! This is why you drive me crazy. You took what was a perfectly beautiful, well-choreographed dance and had to make it SERIOUS. In all caps. Why does it have to be about hurricanes or natural disasters? Whyyy does Tyce have to add his own voice reading off news reports? They could have been two people caught in a storm, and I would have liked it well enough, but now I'm just annoyed. And of course, the judges give it a standing ovation because any time a choreographer says that there's some "meaning," then the judges have to make out that it's the best dance ever. So annoying. Someone says something about history in books and in dance or something that just really annoys me. OK, Aaron, time to make me smile again...
Aaron Solo
 |
| Song: Use Me by Bill Withers |
I love seeing Aaron tap dance!! We really haven't since Vegas because he's never been in the bottom. It's so wonderful.
Amy and All-Star Alex Wong - Bollywood
 |
Choreography: Nakul Dev Mahajan
Song: Munni Badnaam Hui Darling from Baangg Sountrack |
This is such a wonderful number. It's so fun and so happy, and the tricks are really impressive. Even Jo, who normally groans when Bollywood comes on, loves it. And I'm glad to see Alex getting to do it, after he was injured in this very style in his own season.
Hayley and Paul - Contemporary
 |
Choreography: Dee Kasperay
Song: I'm Gonna Be by Sleeping At Last |
This is a really beautiful dance, but I am distracted by the song and it's How I Met Your Mother associations.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson says "I'm going to keep this Carly-Rae-Jepsen-short: It was amazing." Jacob pointed out that this is the greatest judging comment of the season. Agreed, Jacob, agreed.
Amy and Fik-Shun - Hip Hop
 |
Choreography: Dave Scott
Song: Lemme See by Usher feat. Rick Ross |
A great routine. Although I felt like Amy had a few technical things she could have improved on. I do miss having a hip hop judge like Dan Karaty from time to time, because it was nice to get some of that technical insight. We get it on ballroom from Mary Murphy, but I'd like more of it for the other styles.
Jasmine and Aaron - Jazz
 |
Choreography: Sean Cheesman
Song: Mirror Mirror by Lord KraVen |
So they danced it well, but it wasn't my favorite of the dances they've done together. I almost forgot to write about it. But Jesse Tyler Ferguson confesses that he has a crush on Aaron, which is just the cutest.
Elimination
We learn that Paul and Hayley are out. At least they have the consolation prize of being very beautiful people.
And we have our final four! What a great group!
